What is ManChild?

This is the question that’s been on the forefront of my mind over the past day or so.

For those of you who don’t know me as well as others, I spent 16 years of my life as a professional pastor (I know by all conventional standards I am a really shitty “christian”, but that doesn’t bother me much, I am not a conventional standards kinda guy) and there’s this churchy word that has been echoing in my thoughts…FELLOWSHIP. It connotes ideals of community and gathering…shared interests and looking out for one another…a group of people with a common mission (like Frodo, Aragorn, Legolas, et al.).

Here’s the thing, fellowship is a choice, it can’t be compulsory or compelled, it must be something you choose to partake in. Not only that, but fellowship doesn’t require sameness. In fact, fellowship thrives in the midst of diversity. When characters from a variety of backgrounds, creeds, passions, and priorities come together for a similar cause, that cause is rewarded by strength of the whole cadre of individuals.

Look, ManChild isn’t for everyone, as this week’s rage quit clearly demonstrates. It isn’t the perfect league, as the communication errors (mostly on my part) and odd MFL interface attest to. ManChild can’t meet all of your expectations, as only one of us can walk away with the C-Cup despite all the best laid plans.

ManChild isn’t even about fantasy football.

If you wanna play in a finely tuned league that has all the answers…there are literally millions of those available.

If you wanna make some money with your extensive knowledge of the NFL…play high stakes daily fantasy.

Fantasy football is simply the medium we use to create fellowship.

ManChild fellowship isn’t centered around a ring of power, or a common set of beliefs. We are drawn together by a dedication to moments debauchery and degeneracy. We are committed to taking a break from the obligations of life to serve the base desires of our inner manchild. Because Anthony Bourdain inspires us when he writes, “God protects fools and drunks, and we were certainly both foolish and drunk most of the time.” ManChild is us…and we are awesome.

2020 is a monster, this bitch has cause misery, confusion, doubts, pain, and uncertainty. It is my hope that ManChild remained a bright spot, even in its lesser form. But I also eagerly await 2021.

In the Gospel of Luke, when the women discover the empty tomb, the text says they were filled “with fear and great joy.” That is my motto for ManChild 2021: Resurrection. For we will descend upon that beautiful city of sin with 2 years of pent up crazy…it will be joyous…and I am damned sure afraid of what will ensue.

I hope to see you all there. If not, no hard feelings, I'm sure someone is starting up a really "fun" league that drafts in Fillmore or some shit like that.

Off the soapbox.

Year in review next week.

All Hail ManChild.
