TTR - Draft Review

In a 6-team league, each team is going to be stacked with talent. The key is finding the right mix in the draft to set you up for season long success. For the most part, each team performed well. Success in the Rudy League will come down to managing the starting lineup. With all that talent on each roster, finding a weekly competitive advantage will be paramount for promotion to the Big Show.

Vonmeez4prez: This is a textbook draft from the #1 spot. Very strong at RB, good depth with high upside at WR, a solid starting TE and Lamar at QB. If I were drafting here, I would’ve taken Kittle and Mixon at 4/5, going for all the mid-round values at WR. As it turns out, it worked out just a little worse. However, if OBJ gets the positive TD regression and is fully recovered from the abdominal injury that hampered him all 2019, then this is a dangerous team.

Texas Testies: Nate was auto drafted and ended up with a decent squad. Just goes to show you the fickle nature of this game. I probably shoulda just stayed home and pretended to have COVID instead of ending up with 7 kickers and a weird bruise on my knee.

BenDiesel34: For 13 rounds this was one of the better drafts. However, why in the world would you take a kicker and a D/St in Rounds 9 & 10?!? This is a horrible idea in a 12-team league and downright indefensible in a 6. Look Tucker and the Ravens will probably be in or near the of their positions, but look at the opportunity cost. Taking Tucker meant you passed on Russell Wilson and DJ Moore, and taking the Ravens cost Melvin Gordon and AJ Brown. Not to mention the fact that both Tucker and the Ravens, or at least an equivalent would have been available in 14 and 15.

Butt Chuggin’: David turned in a very nice draft. I like the picks throughout, except for Fournette. Passing on Connor, DJ, and Gurley was a mistake. Yes, all 4 former top-5 RBs have significant question marks, but I can’t think of a single reason to rank Leonard at the top of that tier. Definitely wondering what David saw here. The sting from the Fournette pick is alleviated by getting Gurley and Mostert later in the draft.

MoBettaButta’s: If you’re going to forego RB you need to score at the other positions AND make the most of your mid-round RB selections. For the most part Andy accomplished this getting the top 2 WRs, an excellent pair at QB, and great value at TE. The big problem was taking Jonathan Taylor instead of Chris Carson; it is a huge gamble. Taylor is a rookie in a time-share for at least the first part of the season. Best case, he takes over after the first few games, but that’s not a certainty. Marlon Mack is no slouch. While Carson is a true workhorse in a very run heavy attack. Also taking two D/STs in a 6 team league is really not necessary, and even more so if you’ve going to take the two D/STs with the highest likelihood to regress after phenomenal 2019 seasons.

White Privilege: Ryan returns to ManChild with a really solid draft day. This is not a surprise coming from a manager that was one Derek Carr interception away from a Championship. There are no significant holes in this draft. My only objection is taking a kicker and D/ST in 13 & 14. You sacrificed Chark, Sutton, and Boyd as a WR5 and instead got Pittman Jr.
